Love, Kindness, and a Dash of Spaghetti: Meal Train, The Recipe for Change

A Meal, A Moment, A Miracle: Simple Acts of Love Bring Joy through the Meal Train

Something extraordinary happens daily at Weightless Anchor Hospitality Home, located in the heart of Cincinnati’s Lower Price Hill. But don’t expect fireworks or grand speeches. No, transformation here looks a little different—it looks like a warm meal shared at a kitchen table, a kind word offered at just the right moment, and a safe space where burdens get a little lighter.

The women who walk through Weightless Anchor’s doors aren’t just looking for shelter; they’re seeking rest from the weight of abuse, exploitation, life on the streets, and a world that too often overlooks them. And sometimes, that healing begins with something as simple as a meal.

A Testimony from the Meal Train

Sandy and her daughter, Angel, recently delivered a home-cooked meal to the young women at Weightless Anchor. It wasn’t without its challenges—life always likes to throw in a few unexpected road closures just for fun. But they pressed on, navigating literal and spiritual detours, and what happened next was pure joy.

The moment they arrived, they were met with smiles—not just polite, “thank-you” smiles, but real, heart-deep, you-see-me smiles. Along with the meal, they brought Valentine’s gifts donated by the Community Pantry—little tokens of love that carried a much bigger message: You matter. You are seen. You are loved.

Debbie, one of the leaders at Weightless, could hardly contain her gratitude. She knew what these gifts would mean to the girls. Sometimes, it’s not about what’s in the bag—it’s about what’s behind it: the thought, the care, the reminder that someone out there believes in you.

As Sandy reflected on the night, she realized something powerful: Even when obstacles pop up—detours, delays, doubts—God’s work cannot be stopped. And being part of this mission? In her words, it’s “off the chain cool and awesome!

Your Invitation to Be Part of the Story

Sandy and Angel’s experience is just one of many. And here’s the thing—you can be part of this, too.

We’re calling on kind-hearted folks (like you!) to help in one of two ways:

  1. Prepare a meal: Each week, volunteers cook a meal for the women at Weightless Anchor and drop it off at Whitewater. No Michelin stars required—just a willingness to spread love through food. Sign up on the Meal Train.
  2. Be a delivery driver: If you can spare time on Wednesdays, we need drivers to pick up meals from Whitewater and deliver them to Weightless Anchor. Contact LeAnn Sanson, the director, on Mondays to arrange a delivery time (typically between 9:30–10:00 a.m.). Quick note: Men cannot attend Weightless Anchor after 1:00 p.m.

A simple meal. A small act of kindness. A moment that changes everything.

Let’s move mountains together—one plate of food at a time.
