The Bus That Brings Relief, Hope, and Maybe Even a Free Phone

You never forget the sound of a bus pulling up when you’ve been waiting for something to arrive, especially when it’s bringing help.

On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., something powerful is coming to the Life Center: the Hamilton County 513Relief Bus. It doesn’t honk its horn or flash bright lights. It just parks, opens its doors, and quietly changes lives. 

Inside this one-of-a-kind mobile resource center, you’ll find a surprising amount of goodness packed into a single vehicle:

  • Fresh produce (courtesy of Food from the Soul)
  • Free phones (thanks to Stand Up Wireless)
  • Mobile banking and financial wellness support (via Fifth Third Bank)
  • Medical screenings (blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol, provided by UC Health)
  • Mental health support, housing connections, peer recovery, resources for seniors, and even birth certificates

Think of it like a one-stop neighborhood pop-up shop for your well-being—except you don’t have to buy anything, and you walk away healthier, wiser, or at least holding a bag of tomatoes and a number to call.

What’s really happening here is bigger than services. It’s about removing barriers—transportation, cost, access, knowledge—and replacing them with dignity, connection, and possibility.

I once met a woman at one of these events who came for groceries and left with hope. “I didn’t know anyone still cared like this,” she whispered, bag in hand. No dramatic music. No cameras. Just a quiet shift inside her, and a little more strength for the road ahead.

That’s what this bus does. And it’s why we’re so grateful to partner with Hamilton County, UC Health, and many others who help bring this to our neighborhood.
