Volunteering: How One Simple Yes Can Change Everything When Nancy started mentoring at the Life Center, she wasn’t sure what she had to offer. “I’m no counselor,” she said. “I’m just a gal who cares for people.” Enter Mary. Twenty-two. Rough past. No roadmap for the future. Mary came to the Life Center because someone told her she needed a “plan.” What she found instead was a person, Nancy, willing to sit with her, listen, and remind her she wasn’t stuck. Week by week, something shifted. Mary showed up on time. She asked hard questions. She started dreaming out loud. She went from saying, “I don’t know where to start,” to “I’ve got a plan.” And Nancy?   From Seeking Help to Inspiring Others: Claudia’s Journey In January 2024, Claudia walked through the doors of the Life Center in search of financial support. But she wasn’t just looking for help— she was looking for a way forward . And wow, did she find it. Fast-forward ten months, and  Claudia has just completed the Hero On A Mission program , proving that  resilience, hard work, and a supportive community can transform lives . She didn’t just attend sessions—she showed up, dug deep, and worked hard to turn  her story into one of triumph . Claudia’s biggest takeaway? The people . She was surrounded by kind-hearted, encouraging folks who cheered her on every step of the way . (Shoutout to our rockstar volunteers—you make the magic happen!)
